Neil Kearney is a Victoria-based journalist.

Born in Longford Tasmania, the son of a shearer, he has spent his working life telling stories.

He started in newspapers and by the age of 24 was writing a daily column for Australia’s largest circulation paper.

Despite a rough head and a bad haircut, in the early 1980s he tried his luck in television. His first documentary was about an old-timer who ran marathons wearing gumboots.

Kearney has worked for all three of Australia’s commercial tv networks, has made many documentaries and has covered eight Olympic Games.

He has reported on sports for the Seven Network for 20 years and considers himself privileged to be in a job where he works with terrific people.
