Storyteller Neil Kearney tells the remarkable story of the annual motor racing event that took place at Longford, a town in Tasmania’s northern midlands, between 1953 and 1968. Longford motor racing was the biggest event ever held on Tasmanian soil. Every Formula One world champion of the 1960s came to Longford to race, as well as some of the fastest motorcycle racers on the planet.

Kearney grew up at Longford and witnessed many of the definitive moments. More than fifty years later, he wonders at how a little town at the bottom of the world came attract every Formula One world champion of the 1960s. For drivers, motorcycle and sidecar racers around Australia and overseas, this was the biggest event of their lives.

After 40 years of telling stories on national television, Kearney has returned to his birthplace for what he says is the most amazing story of his life.

The book, complete with more than 100 magnificent pictures, will be published during 2022.
